Thanks to all you great Chowhounders my husband & I went to JK Wine Bar while in Toronto this past weekend. We got there on Sunday, at about 7pm. We expected a wait for 2 seats at the wine bar, but to our delight, there were plenty of seats available right away. (by the way, both sides of the "bar" had seats open the entire time we were there). We had a great time & as we looked at the menu, it took us a while to decide on the dishes we'd order & share. Everything looked terrific. Heres what we had. Since we are both Poutine virgins, we decided to start with that. At JK Wine Bar, they change the "flavor" of the poutine frequently. This evening it was a flavorful red sauce with thin slices of chorizo on top of the fries. The wine paired with it was a 2000 Gloria Ferrer, Syrah Delicious!! Then we shared a warm cherry tomato & goat cheese tart. Heaven! We had a 2004 Domaine Salvard Cheverny, Sauvignon Blanc with it. Next, I had the green salad with herb dressing. The dressing was fantastic & really made the salad. My husband had the soup of the day, a sweet potato/butternut squash soup. It was so good I think he was humming with each sip. He had a 2004 Penley Estate "Over the Moon" Rose to go with it. Then I had the halibut with clams-wonderful. The amount of halibut was melt in your mouth, but alas such a tiny amount, clams tender as can be, a wonderful broth. The wine was a 2003 Feudi di San Gregorio. My husband had the Coq Au Vin Blanc with Northern Woods mushrooms. Simply addictive. What a rich, fantastic sauce. If we had bread, there'd literally be not a speck of it left on the plate. Wine paired with it was a 2003 Akarua Pinot Noir. Service was great, with all the servers very knowledgable and happy to help. All I can say is, we loved this place & would go back in a heartbeat...again & again. Thanks Chowhounders...you're the best!
