Jamaica's Cakes

cvc | Feb 21, 2006 06:25 PM

Rushing back from Pep Boy's and Out of the Closet, both on Pico Blvd. near Overland, I spied a new bakery, Jamaica's Cakes just west of Gateway next to the S.F. Saloon. Attractive display in front included large lemon scones, black bottom cupcakes and caramelized brioche bread pudding all for $2.50, jumbo cookies for $1.50 and various cakes. I opted for the delicious chocolate and caramel dipped shortbread for $2.50 which was definitely more than I needed this close to dinner. Perhaps, as well, the answer to those who find City Bakery price, and parking, prohibitive. Jamaica is the owner/baker and James, her husband, the congenial counter man.
