I just wanted to thank everyone who posted recommendations for Jaleo. After eating there Saturday night, I cannot believe it was my first time! I did have drinks there about 4-5 years ago, but never dinner.
Anyway, highlights of the meal included the bacon-wrapped date fritters. One could argue, what wouldn't taste good wrapped in bacon, but these were excellent! I could have eaten many more, but did not succumb to the gluttony.
Other highlights included the bread with tomato and manchego cheese, the croquettas and garlic shrimp.
And I must add that I had the basque cake for dessert and it was FABULOUS! It is difficult to describe, sort of like a toasted pound cake, but lighter and creamier (??), had a wonderful cinnamon-flavored sauce and a scoop of vanilla ice milk resting on some crunchy stuff. Not the most eloquent description, but the flavors and textures were so good together! I will definitely return as there were many more tapas that we wanted to try.
