Jade palace palo alto

After some good reports on the board I thought I'd give it a try. Interesting experience...

Got the sweet and sour shrimp lunch special (afterwards I noticed a signboard outside with more interesting lunch specials that weren't on the menu, were cheaper, and weren't mentioned to me when I asked if they served lunch specials on Sunday).

The good - the soup that came with the lunch was hot and sour
the bad - it was the most uninteresting broth that I've ever had, no dimension of taste except an almost watery taste with flecks of chili

the good - the shrimp was lightly coated with a batter and quite fresh which was really good because
the bad - the shrimp was raw! Completely opaque - not even white on the outside edges - guess it was a REALLY quick dip to fry the batter. The onions and green peppers (also fresh) were raw - it was as if the raw veggies were put on the plate and the hot shrimp and sauce poured over them. Not a hint of having been in the wok :( When I mentioned the raw shrimp to the waiter he raised his eyebrows and looked a little surprised - but made no apology nor any suggestion that any corrective action might be taken.

I know others have raved about this place but I just don't get it.
