Jacques Torres phenomenon

I was waiting for the Valentine's Day rush to be over so I could enjoy my hot chocolate in peace. Well, I'm starting to think that that wasn't really a Valentine's rush, just the new state of affairs over there. It's not that I don't want to share, but it's getting out of hand. I was holding my breath for Friday of last week figuring it would be the first quiet day in a week, but they were filming an American Express commercial starring Jacques, so clearly that was not the day for quietness. The next two times I was there, including yesterday -- previously a dependably slow day (Monday!) -- it was mobbed. I'm scared. I've come to relish my afternoon hot chocolate. One of the women that works there said Jacques was on Food Network the other day and maybe that was it. I suppose it's inevitable and certainly quality and service have not (yet) suffered, but I keep thinking of the Yogi Berra line, "Nobody goes to that place anymore. It's too crowded."
