I had the pleasure of trying Jacques Imo's NYC with some friends on Sunday. I have been to his New Orleans place , So I have a point of reference. I was joined by three other Chowhounds so we could sample more dishes. Upon being seated with no wait, Already a big plus I waited 2 hours in the Maple Leaf once to eat. We were served Hot Cornbread. Appetizers were Corn Maquechoux , Shrimp & Alligator Sausage Cheesecake, Fried Green Tomatoes and Stuffed Shrimp. All were excellent and as they were in New Orleans. One of the Hounds who is From New Orleans noted how they were even using Gulf Shrimp in the dishes, Keeping it Authentic. We did receive the customary Spinach salad with a Fried Oyster on top after the appetizers. Main courses were Carpet Bagger Steak, Steak W/ Oysters in a Amazing sauce, it works! A dish called Godzilla a Soft Shell Crab W/ Fried green Tomatoes. This was a taste sensation! Fried Catfish w/ Remoulade sauce was good ,but one Chowhound was not impressed, "not up to snuff with the rest of the dishes". And the Smothered Chicken was very good, but I would go with the Fried Chicken next time we go. We closed it out with a delicious White Chocolate Bread Pudding, and a Chocolate Turtle that is a Chocolate/ Carmel blast. The Next day looking back all the hounds were very pleased with our meal at Jacques Imo's. He is to be complimented with this effort. Rather than just putting his name on the place and churning out mundane chow (Emeril). He has opened a place that really catches the true essence of New Orleans. I cant wait to go back. So muck Chow, So little time.
