Jacques-Imo's (& Mothers) History on this board

groovyman | Feb 26, 2005 11:25 PM

Tonight on a whim I scrolled down to the bottom of this board. It started in '97 (though about 1/2 of the posts have been in past year or two. Really picking up).

As I scrolled up, I noticed a lot of Jacques-Imo's postings and several Mothers. So I started clicking and Chowhounds historically were overwhelmingly positive about these places, particularly J-I's. Grumblings for J-I's start appearing in mid 2002 but as late as 4/04 there was a whole thread on "Jacques-Imo's Still Has It," with several dissenters, of course. Mother's faired worse as the board grew, but still got a lot of positive reports.

The point: No one's opinion is wrong, but for those who haven't been, don't be afraid to check it out for yourself. Some love it and some hate it. But there seem's to be just an inordinate amount of critics of it on the board right now. I was starting to wonder how I could have such great memories of the place! I even found an old post of mine in '03 suggesting for someone to try it and noone objected, so I was quite surprised by how strong the reaction was against it now!!!

Other interesting things if you look over the history:

1) Early post for Best Kept Secret and Where Locals Dine: Brigtsen's. Think the secret is out.

2) Uglesich's is FAR AND AWAY the most written-about place.

3) Every place in NOLA has a crowd who loves it and a crowd that hates it!
