Jacqueline's Tearoom in Freeport, Maine

Had the opportunity to have tea at Jacqueline's Tearoom last week. I'm not a big tea drinker and thought the whole thing would be to frou frou for me. Totally wrong. The tearoom is definitely frilly and there are lots of chandeliers and flowers, but it was really a great space for a special lunch with a bunch of high school friends who haven't gotten together in awhile.

Jacqueline has excellent taste in the meal she prepares. We had 4 different 'finger sandwiches' for each of us and absolutely THE best chocolate torte I have ever eaten. We each sampled 2 different types of teas and we had enough to share all of them among us.

We had enough time to chat and have our tea and lunch without feeling like we had to rush out the door. I had to ask how come there wasn't a line and Jacqueline said she only takes reservations for the number of seats she has so no one feels rushed.

There are 3 separate rooms and each has it's own decor and layout. They all have cute fireplaces which are probably really cozy in the winter, but we were fine sitting in a sunny window.

We did a little shopping in the gift shop (well, Freeport IS all about shopping!) and came away with some fun girlfriend gifts for a few birthdays coming up in our group.

I think this is a neat alternative to chowder and lobster or a sandwich for lunch. It was quiet and serene and there was no hustle bustle about the place. We all really felt like it was the perfect place to have this kind of get together.

Next time we can all sort out our schedules and get away for a girlfriends' weekend, we'll make another reservation for lunch and tea at Jacquelines!
