Well one part of Jack's in La Jolla is openned. The downstairs Grille. Don't be discouraged by the construction still going on. It has a bar and lounge area, as well has tables with a cool looking "fireplace" The menu is casual eclectic. It has a little bit of everything. Tapping into the tapas craze they offer small plates of sashimi, skewers, and other cooked items. Also sandwiches, salads and woodfired pizzas.
We tried a sashimi plate. Very fresh, melt in your mouth delicious. Great pizza. Thin crust, tomatoes, proscutto, cheese and arugula. It came to the table piping hot. The crust was crisp, I liked the combination of the sweet tomatoes, salty proscutto, bitter arugula and gooey melted cheese.
The atmosphere is a bit odd, because you are sitting in the middle of a little shopping mall. I'm not sure if the shops are staying or going. They do have somewhat of an open kitchen. It is situated behind a huge glass window.
Regardless, if our little tasting is any indication of what's to come, it makes me very excited. Jack's will be a great addition to the San Diego restaurant scene.
Still to open is the coffee stand, oyster bar, and fine dining they are supposed to have a total of 4 bars.
