Anyone been here? Met a guy who is serious about beer ... as in driving as far as Vancouver to check out a good brew ... and he was raving about Jack's.
It had his favorite beer on tap (I forgot the name, crumbs!)
They also seem to have some food and an oyster bar.
From the link below:
The latest addition to the Jacks family of ale houses ... With 13.5 million people walking past the front door every year, there's no need to worry about beer sitting idle in its keg. ... The walls upstairs and down are lined with original oak paneling from the Hearst Castle ...
General Manager, Head Chef and Tapologist Jackie Smit's goal is to make the upstairs ... the home of the elitest of micros. Plans are afoot for the addition of Jack's own brewery, the reincarnation of California's first start-up microbrewery since Prohibition, the new New Albion Brewery.
Below is the only other link I found about the place from a British visitor (who says Jacks strictly enforces a 40 beer limit).
Can't find anything else, and haven't been able to get down to the Fisherman's Wharf area lately. Wonder if the oyster bar is decent.
It seems to imply there are other Jacks Ale Houses but I could not find anything on the web to indicate a chain. I'm sensing tourist trap with the location and touches like that 40 beer limit and the business about being open since 1932 (right).
However, they guy who mentioned the place was such a beer geek (my eyes were glazing over with info overload) that I'm thinking perhaps this might be a good place ... any opinions?
