Dinner at Jack Stack BBQ was a bit of a disappointment given the good reviews. It was more like a steak house restaurant environment (situated in a Spanish-style mall) with the high prices rather than a BBQ joint. Server consistently tried to upsell us items-probably her job but really annoying. Onion rings were 4 rings of large size, possibly homemade. Brisket was unremarkable, not very smoky and not tender. Turkey had nice smoky flavor and was moist but appeared to be a precooked turkey breast that was later smoked. Sausage while flavorful was oddly cut into long, thin slices-not sure if pork, beef or combo but probably pork. The ribs that came with the combo were spareribs not baby backs due to the ridiculous upcharge. Moist, well-smoked but distinctly lacking in any notable flavor. Just a bit blah-lack of rub? Did go well with the original sauce though. Sides: pre-packaged potato salad (?), cheesy corn which was like mac and cheese but with corn (just ok) and a delicious looking (Meg liked) baked potato with cheese bacon sour cream. All in all, not really good but really expensive. Proving you can't trust fancy BBQ! C
