Izakaya Ju - New Update and still the best Yakiniku Izakaya up north!

Charles Yu | Jun 9, 201602:34 PM

Whilst Kingyo, with its peerless and incredible tasting Braised Beef Ribs, is my overall GTA favorite Japanese Izakaya. Up north, whenever I wanted a serious Izakaya fix, 'Izakaya Ju ' inside Markham's J-Town is my automatic go to place. With an ultra-delicious Teriyaki Chicken Burger and a whole spectrum of yummy Yakinikus as main anchor to their massive and varied menu, this place is almost always packed in the evening. As such, for our long overdue revisit, we decided to have an early lunch there instead.
Overall, food was still extremely tasty and almost flawless in their preparation....except may be for a few small pieces of slightly over-charred chicken liver. Expecting the stand out dishes to be their famed Yakinikus, I was surprised that the one dish that really stood out and wow my taste bud was their simple looking but light and densely flavored ' Asari ' clams ' Ramen'. Simply put, it was one delicious bowl of umami galore! Limited to only 10 bowls a day, I was fortunate to savor it whilst it was still available.
Though a touch more expensive than the norm, the fine quality of the food more than made up for the price. Service, overall was friendly and efficient. Noise level, due to the high ceiling and an expanded front of the house ( they took over the ramen place next door a while back ) was suppressed.
I was so glad for this revisit after an almost year long hiatus. No doubt my next visit will be much sooner?
