I'm looking for... not a good rum cake, but a GREAT Italian rum cake for my dads birthday party.
I live in Orange County and I've read a few posts on the board about Amy's Bakery in Montebello. I used to live in Montebello, and the best Italian rum cakes used to come from Masiello's Italian bakery. Unfortunately, they are no long in business.
Over the years, I have tried to find one that would match Masiellos... with cream frosting, almonds on the side, rasberry filling, and plenty of RUM!! I found most to be dry and tastless! Most don't use enough RUM... and the cake doesn't even taste like a RUM cake.
And those are the ingredients needed for a great Italian Rum Cake... cream frosting, almond accents, rasberry filling, and of course... the RUM.
So... anyone out there that might have an idea or recommendation... I'd appreciate it. The party is in May 08.
I'd drive to L.A. county or San Diego county if necessary
