Italian Homemade started out in North Beach https://www.chowhound.com/post/italia... , then a couple years ago expanded to my neighborhood opening a larger second location on Union Street. Two weeks ago I finally walked over there to grab a bite. I was floored that the place was packed and had a line of folks waiting to order on a Monday night.
As I waited my turn, I studied the menu board posted on the wall and had decided what I wanted. But when I reached the register and saw the daily specials, the magic words "Nettle Fettuccine Chanterelle", $17.50, were impossible to resist.
I paid and got a number, and a few minutes later a seat opened at the counter before my food was ready.
The portion was enormous and the amount of chanterelles almost outweighed the pasta. The thickish green fettuccine was very firm. Sauced with a buttery cream sauce and plenty of grated cheese, the dish was extremely rich. With this amount of wild mushrooms, unfortunately, there was grit in every mouthful. Someone needs to learn to clean chanterelle gills better. But the flavor and volume were so over-the-top, I remained a happy customer.

Their Lasagna is hands down my favorite in SF
Italian fast food is not meant to be. Something has to give. The food is just ok, but there is a lot of it.
