Italian "Fried Cream"

I try and try and will try again. Knowing there are always new members to Chowhound, I will pose this question. I have been looking for a recipe for "Fried Cream". I believe it's made with semolina (or Cream of Wheat), kind'a like sweetened polenta with a hint of lemon zest. Seems it's cut into squares and fried in butter. There used to be a restaurant in L.A. when I was a child that served this as a side dish with some of their fare, and I had it once as a dessert many years ago in a San Francisco restaurant. Does anyone know what I'm talking about, and, if so, how do I make it?
