We lived in downtown Brooklyn and always figured we'd find good Southern Italian red-sauce, red-checkered tablecloth food in nearby Carroll Gardens, which has such a large and wonderful Italian-American population. The only one we've tried in Carroll Gardens is Marco Polo, and it was AWFUL. Soupy bland sauce and overcooked pasta. So we got scared off adn skipped the others in the same neighborhood.
We're willing to try again -- any suggestions, both for a sit-down Italian and for a good slice of pizza, in Carroll Gardens? Note: We really mean Carroll Gardens because we're curious... and not nearby Brooklyn Heights, where Noodle Pudding is indeed a terrific neighborhood Italian restaurant, and not the similarly yuppified Smith Street.
