At the urging of chowhounds I tried Three Tomatoes on Church Street for Lunch. OK, but a bit overpowering on the garlic even for this garlic lover. The next day, strolling around this attractive little city, I found Bove's, an Italian restaurant 'Diner' on 68 Pearl Street. Although flexibility is not a strong suite (Greg, my congenial waiter tried to substitute a small salad for french fries for me; I heard NO! all the way to my table) I just ordered a small salad with my open faced meat ball sandwitch and asked them to keep the french fries. The salad was simple but delicious, the ingredients cold and fresh tasting, and the open meatball sandwich pleasingly pungent with lots of sauce. All in all, an outstanding lunch for $8. If you like the sauce they sell it in jars at the cash register. A true Chowhound find!
