Italian Breadsticks Recipes?

Looking for a good recipe for some good breadsticks!!! Tried to reproduce a copycat "olive garden" recipe for the first time this weekend and it didn't go so hot.

I used Fleischmann's dry yeast in the jar, I guess i screwed up in activating it or didn't let it rise enough, but the breadsticks tasted a little floury.

Anyone have a rather fool proof way?

I don't have a breadmachine and will be hand-kneading (but don't mind kneading for a while for some good breadsticks!)

here is the recipe I used, I'm sure 90% of the failure was yeast related.

1 1/3 cups of water
4 tsp soft butter
4 cups of flour
2 Tbsp sugar
2 tsp salt
2 tsp yeast

mix, knead, cut out/roll breadsticks, place on baking sheet, cover and let rise for 45 minutes. (i'm thinking the yeast I used might have required longer maybe?)

brush with butter,
bake for 15 minutes at 400, brush with butter a few more times and sprinkle with garlic powder and fresh grated parm.
