Just a belated note to Elton on Italian restaurants in New Orleans: that little place in Gentilly named Il Ristorante that you mention in your original query is today none other than...Tony Angello's. I worked as
as a busboy at the original Il Ristorante my first semester in college. There was a great bar downstairs from the restaurant called the Black Orchid...had a great outdoor sign of a cocktail glass with an olive in it and the words Black Orchid---all in pink neon lighting. I believe it was sometime in the seventies when the restaurant moved to its present location on Fleur de Lis. Il Ristorante by any other name would taste as paraphrase (was it) Gertrude Stein?
