Issan (northeastern Thai) food

Seth | Oct 6, 200511:51 PM

just got back from Thailand, have spent the majority of the past 5 years in Bangkok, Khon Kaen and Chiang Mai. Since I've been in LA I've sampled the cuisine in Thai town. Sanamluang is okay for noodles but not much in terms of anything else. Palms makes the best thai salads and has good fish dishes, and most authentic taste of any place with extensive menu. Rodded has great soups and is good for lunch. Torung has the best tom ka gai I've had in the U.S. But what are the other places? Any recommendations? Where can I get good somtam, namtok and gai yang?
