ISO suggestions for blender purchase: 10-year-old on liquid diet

gimlis1mum | Sep 16, 201604:44 PM     4

My son is having surgery in a couple of months and will be on a soft foods diet for 6 weeks (no chewing allowed). Mac and cheese milkshakes are in his future...we have a regular blender (which he is allowed to use on his own) and a food processor (which he is not).

For the sake of convenience, and also hoping to get buy-in from the boy, I was thinking of getting a magic bullet- type of appliance that comes with travel cups/mugs. The idea being that he could blend up his own lunch and take it to school in the mug. Also that I could have several jar/mugs and not have to constantly be washing the blender.

Anyone have recommendations for specific brands or models? I don't really want to spend a ton of money on it. Should I bite the bullet (argh; pun) and get a Vitamix? Or will my old blender and food processor do the job?
