ISO of Staten Island Food Musts

brooklynsabra | Feb 16, 201609:57 AM

So every year, for over a decade now, we make a pilgrimage to Staten Island to do our taxes. What would otherwise be a chore has evolved into a day trip that always includes various food stops.

Over the years, we have tried Deli as in corned beef & pastrami, plus German, Sri-lankan and Thai cuisines, and finally decided that pizza is really where it's at. We love both Joe and Pat's, and Denino's, (and we also tried to go to Lee's Tavern one year, but it was a mob scene), but are open to other recs. We also make a point of stopping at various Italian delis and bakeries, though I rarely am able recall where we go from one year to the next. But am interested in places that offer great pizza dough, sausages, and fresh pasta. I do recall a recent spot we went to where we bought huge rice balls, and some really delicious freshly made pesto, plus these amazing flank steak pinwheels filled with spinach and fresh mozzarella. I just can't remember the name of the place. Also love the chocolate bread from Royal Crown--which for whatever strange reason, we only seem to buy when we are on S.I. though I know they have a Bklyn location.

Would love recs for any and all delicious food stops on SI. While we have focused on Italian over the years, we are most definitely open to anything. Deliciousness is our only pre-requisite.

Oh yes, I also remember visiting a chocolate factory one year (Supreme?). Is that still around?

Thanks in Advance!
