I used to go to Cupertino once a month and often stopped for dinner at A&J, at Wolfe and Homestead, behind Ranch 99. I was there today for a delicious serving of kao fu, a plate of bean curd skins with mustard greens and soy beans, and a bowl of thick-cut noodles with sesame sauce. The whole thing cost about $9, and I have enough left for lunch tomorrow.
Is there anywhere like this closer to the city: simple, authentic mostly northern food? Also who has good kao fu in San Francisco? It seems to often be listed by a euphemism (at A&J it's called "vegetarian delight"--the first time I got it was by accident.)
A year ago, I went to A&J with a friend from Beijing, who was excited to recognize the chain and gave me a long list of dishes to try. I'm still working my way through it.
