i will be at a conference till 4pm at NYU today. i'm planning late dinner but would like to head out to LES for a few hours to wonder around first. are there any places that have happy hour in LES or East Village where we can have both drinks and smaller bites? in terms of price comparison, something a bit cheaper than Balthazar's prices would be appreciated (and while we love oysters, if the bar menu has more than raw stuff that would be a bonus too).
brief report of our stay so far: went to cafe habana for lunch and momofuku ssam for dinner last night. both very fun and very satisfying. i had fish tacos for lunch and my partner had the cuban sandwich. both delicious. i also loved the bloody mary (liked the replacement of worsestershire sauce with fresh horseradish). momofuku was great, tbanh mi and steamed buns were delish, the only lesser dish was teh soft shell crab - the crab itself was good, but the potatoes it came with were oversalted. we were impressed with the services too. there was some order mix up and one of our last dishes was late in coming (we barely noticed having fun just enjoying the place), and the bartender gave us a round of drinks on the house. very nice even though we were not complaining at all.
thanks for the tips chowhounds, NY rocks (toronto needs a place like momofuku!)
