I used to buy boxes of frozen squid sourced in Monterey, California at Loblaws, Great Canadian Superstore and Metro. Has anyone seen boxes of frozen Californian squid lately?
I have been able to find thawed squid (which I do not believe is from Monterey) at the seafood counter at some Loblaws and Sobey's. The thawed squid from the counter doesn't taste as good as the frozen squid that is cooked immediately after being defrosted.
I can find frozen squid rings in bags, mixed frozen shellfish in bags, and frozen breaded calamari at Metro, No Frills, Loblaws, Superstore, Sobey's and Farm Boy. The frozen squid rings I've been finding are usually from China or southeast Asia. They are not as tender as the smaller frozen squid I am seeking out.
I want the smaller frozen whole squid from California instead.
Has anyone bought squid from City Fish, Diana's or any other fishmongers lately?
Thanks for any leads.
