ISO Celebratory locales that won't break the bank

Sunshine Girl | Aug 11, 200506:57 PM

So, after 9 painstaking years, and not one default, I have at long last come to within the last several dollars of paying back my student loans. Yep, that's right, those federal stafford loans that amounted to way over the price of a low-end Mercedes are almost buh-bye. And what do I want to do to celebrate? Accrue more debt on a much higher interest rate "loan" through a credit card for a fantastic celebratory meal! (Before you all chastise me for overspending, let me say it will actually be paid in cash).

Now, I am a bit of a cheapskate. Of course I love to splurge now and again, but if I can find a place that takes my KCRW card or Entertainment book discount, all the better.

And, I love great food.

Sushi is always a fave, as is "Californian" cuisine. I thought it might be comical to go to some UCLA or USC proximal haunts, just to say "I was once there," but if that were the case, I might as well buy 20 packages of Ramen soup from Cosco for $.10 a piece and do it that way!

So 'Hounds, when looking for a good food joint in which to celebrate this "one small step" for woman, what comes to mind (that doesn't drain all of what was my former monthly payment)? South Bay/LB is preferred, but more than willing to drive if it is worth it.

Thanks for your neverending advice and insights.
