ISO "Alice in Wonderland" teacups

I have never purchased fine china in my life, so I have no idea where to even begin looking other than the wedding registry section of Gump's or Macy's (I'm in San Francisco).

I'm wondering where I can go to buy a small set of beautiful teacups and saucers. Most importantly, I want the cups to be very round--almost bowl like--and very thin beautiful china.

As for design, if the china's really beautiful I wouldn't mind plain white. Otherwise, I think it would be really fun to have something very "I live in Victorian England," perhaps gilded or just decorated with a lot of girly flowers and such.

I'm tired of the boring chrome and black modern look that we see everywhere today. I want my friends to be surprised when I pull out my tea set and bring them to the Age of Alice.

What are some makers of affordable and beautiful china? Should I bother looking in antique stores? I wouldn't mind having mismatched yet complementary cups (as long as each cup has its matching saucer!)
