After hearing all kinds of hype from non-Chow-esque friends about how great Island Burgers on 9th and 49th is, best burgers in midtown, blah blah blah, I had one for lunch today. Suffice it to say -- bleck.
I went with the "Boss burger," advertised as a burger on rye with bacon, cheddar, and ranch, cooked medium. Sadly, the burger was overcooked, 100% dry, the cheese was cold, the bread soggy. A thoroughly unenjoyable burger experience, especially considering the misplaced hype. And no fries. Which is apparently a big deal for them, because their kitchen is too small for a fryer. I can do without the empty calories anyway.
But the burger was just a gross experience. I feel icky now.
Any recommendations for a better ~$8 burger in the Times Square/Hells Kitchen area? I know, I know, a great little Scottish place called McDonald's across from TKTS...
