Today on a long walk from my house in North Flushing to Bell, I collected a bunch of new menus that looked interesting. Usually the only reason I'm on Bell is for a burger at Donovan's or some predictable, "upscale" Thai at Erawan when I'm too lazy to trek to Sri. Today I noticed "Pelagos" on 38th and Bell which bills itself as a Greek Seafood Tavern (very simple fish/mezze menu that kind of reminded me of Kyclades as did the huge swordfish on the wall) "Sushi Bell" on 36th which was having its Grand Opening (mostly a large, salad bar, homemade soups and a nice array of sushi offerings) "Wild Ginger" on 39th (which had quite a few people there for lunch) "Gateaux Bakery and Cafe" on 42nd ( Korean coffee shop with pasteries that look just like Koryodang's) and most interesting of all a place next door to Press 195 called "Coree Korean Fusion Grill" (saw the owner outside and she said they are slated for a mid-June opening- they seemed to be really into the design element of the space.)
Has anyone been to any of these places yet?
After getting my son a piece of Grandma pie at Il Vesuvio (new owners?) we headed over to Press 195 as usual. Sweet potato corn chowder was great! Gazpacho a bit flat. Sandwiches and roasted beet salads ordered by friends looked as fresh as ever. It was nice just sitting out in their backyard garden drinking strawberry lemonade. Me and my tum-tum problems ended up at Yogurteria for a simple plain Frogurt with honey. On the way back I passed a new Thai place on Francis Lewis across from Garden World and Waldbaum's called "BK NY" Bangkok- New York? They had run out of take-out, but the guy in front of the hair salon said it was great. Who knows? More stuff to try after my stomach probs. are sorted out.
