Irvine Ranch House Restaurant

I had breakfast there one day, and decided I didn’t have to go back. Then I had lunch there about 2 months later, and decided I didn’t have to go back. So it was with some trepidation that I succumbed to going there again.

You see, my friend was taking me to pick up my car from the shop. So in a way I was a prisoner of circumstances. Oh well, I reasoned, I guess I can eat at the restaurant he chooses since after all he’s doing me a favor.

So in we went, and were seated at a tall bar-like table. So we had to sit on barstools to eat, which in my book got us off to a bad start. When your feet don’t touch the ground, it can’t be good.

The waitress came over to take our order and my friend asked about the Jambalaya. She said it was great, excellent. Using all my previous experience, I just couldn’t bring myself to believe her so I asked about the prime rib special (medallions served in a red wine sauce). She said the Jambalaya was good. So I asked about the pork sandwich, to which she responded the Jambalaya was good.

So Jambalaya it is.

Well what a surprise. Make no mistake, it wasn’t the best I’d ever had, but it was darn good. The sauce was a touch spicy, the andouille was flavorful. The shrimp seemed fresh. There was other stuff in there, too, and it was all tasty. The rolls that came with it were soft and hot. It was actually pretty good.

So I thought I’d give a heads-up…If you ever have to go there, the Jambalaya is the call. I may even go there again on my own.
