Next up for the Curry Divers is a survey of Chaat, the lip-smacking, finger-licking delicious snacks, appetizers, and street foods of India.

Melanie and Curtis invite you to join them at India Chaat and Sweets in Berkeley on Thursday, August 26, at 6:30pm for, you guessed it, chaat and sweets. For an idea of what’s in store, here are some of the chaat offerings from the menu:

Veg Samosa
Famous pastries from India stuffed with spiced potatoes and peas topped with garbenzo curry and diced onions

Dahi Bata Puri
Puffed puris stuffed potatoes and chick peas covered with tamrind and yogurt

Papdi Chaat
Flat puris with diced onion, potatoes and chick peas topped with tamrind, mint, yogurt and garnished with cilentro

Pani Puri
Puffed puris with diced potatoes and chick peas and spicey mint water on the side

Bhel Puri
Crispy rice salad with diced onions, potatoes topped with tamrind and mint sauce garnished with cilentro

Sev Puri
Crispy flat puris topped with potatoes, onions, mint & tamrind sauce

Alloo Tiki Cholle
Crispy fried potato patties with garbanzo beans, diced-onions, tamrind & mint sauce

Cholle Bhature
Large puffed puri made of flour, served with garbanzo curry, diced onions & mango pickle

Cost should be about $12 per person, plus tax, tip and beverages. Corkage is $5 per bottle. You’re welcome to bring a bottle of wine to share.
