introducing a new shot: The Copenhagen Schlagen

bigjeff | Jun 26, 2007 02:00 PM

ok, so I just invented a shot over the weekend that I think will be the hit of the summer, or at least, a staple in my house. its a combination of flavors and tastes, and I know the name doesn't even make sense (schlagen means "to hit" or "to beat" in german) and they don't even speak german in denmark so its a bastardized name, but at least it sorta rhymes (long 'ahh' in both words).

but anyway:

1. do a salt rim for a 2 once shot glass (lemon juice in a shallow plate, kosher salt in another)
2. without spilling on the salt, fill the glass 1/3 full with cold ouzo (or other licorice/anise flavored liquor); use a shaker
3. fill almost to the top with tonic water
4. bottoms up!

the tonic neutralizes the ouzo, and the salt combines with the ouzo to simulate the taste of salt licorice, and basically, the shot tastes ike you just ate a piece of danish salt licorice. now, I personally don't like the flavor of it since its so intense, but as a shot, its perfect; clean, refreshing, and of course, adjust the liquor to tonic ratio as you please (1:1 is fine as well).

so enjoy ya'll. and, I'd love to hear any thoughts, if anyone is brave enough to try it.
