Interesting, unusual (and cheap) foods as Xmas presents

I am seriously vexed. I just received my sister's Christmas wish list and it reads thusly: "Byerly's (a local store that has solid bottom, fold-able bags that rock!) grocery bags, good sour-cherry jam, chocolate, and other yummy edible treats would also be welcome. We have so much crammed into this small house, by now, that consumables work well for us."

Her husband eats low carb, so I am stumped. I send various chocolates every year. And I will send a bottle of booze, too.

Is it odd that I'm thinking of heading to ethnic stores to buy things they'd probably never buy for themselves? They live in a small coastal town, and shop at Costco a few times a year. But their grocery stores are sadly lacking in variety and ethnicity.

Would you be happy opening up weird cans and packages of stuff for Christmas? I would be, but I want to check with others before heading to Asian and Central/South American stores.

Thanks!
