I found myself talking to a Thai woman on the 7 train the other day, who it turns out used to live here and is/has been in the Thai restaurant/grocery business. I mentioned Sripraphai, certain that she would see I was interested in 'real' Thai food. She said that Thai people who knew how to cook didn't go there, that it was mostly other Asians and young Thais who didn't know how to cook. (And she is somehow related to an owner). Her top choices were Arharn on 36th Avenue (hot but with more taste than Sri) then Zabb and then Arunee. Needless to say, I was surprised. And she is from the same town as the owners of Sri. I haven't tried Arharn or Zabb yet. My experiences with Arunee have been mixed, most often good. But I'd be interested in your comments, Chowhounds.
