Went to Otto last night. The meal started out great. Service was extremely friendly. We started with small plates, the mussels were packed with flavor and the cauliflower was fantastic. We also had the peas with prosciutto. The peas were so fresh and there weren't too many other ingredients so the natural flavor of the peas really shined through.
The mushroom and tallegio pizza which was excellent. My wife didn't love the flavor of the puttenesca. She thought the anchovy taste was a little strong and that the sauce tasted like tomato paste. I didn't have quite the same reaction but it also wasn't my favorite. I think I will stick to the pizzas next time as I haven't had one that I didn't love.
Dessert was where things sort of fell apart. I couldn't wait to have the olive oil gelato again and was thinking about it all meal....but they ran out!!!So disappointing, but alas it is only gelato so I sucked it up and ordered two other flavors. They mixed up the order and brought us the wrong flavors. We couldn't get our waiter and finally started to eat the gelato while we waited and waited until we finally were able to flag someone down...not our waiter. He left the gelato and went off...to apparantly do nothing. When our waiter finally stopped by, we had already eaten the gelato that was given to us. We told the waiter what happened and he took it off the bill no problem at all. Very nicely handled.
Then we got the check and he neglected to put the wine on the bill. We had to wait a bit before someone came by so we could tell them the mistake. Finally, a manager or host walked through to pick up the bill. I told him about the wine and he was incredibly thankful. When he brought the bill back he only charged us half for the wine. Again, so nicely handled! We were going to leave with a bad taste in our mouth because the eservice really fell apart badly at the end. But they came through and saved the day. I will definitely go back...and order olive oil gelato before my meal!
