Like many of you, I've flitted from one regional board to another as I've traveled. And having just returned from the hyperactive Bay Area, where our chowhounding brethren organize a few 'chowdowns' each week, I'm wondering whether we couldn't do the same here in the South.
According to my new food-loving friends out west, a great way to start is a Chowhound 'picnic,' to which attendees are asked to bring a dish they've found or created. Mexican hot dogs from a Sonoran dive; buttermilk biscuits from the local Texaco; your Uncle Ike's collards: anything's game so long as it can make the trip. Prizes are awarded to best dessert, app, entree, etc.
If there's any interest, I'll go ahead and propose the where and when (suggestions as to both are appreciated.)
