There's a new iPhone app called Word Lens that makes me realize we're really in the future now.
It instantly translates from Spanish to English whatever it's looking at through the camera lens.
They give a brief example of it translating menus, but wow, what an eye-opener, especially as they add more language support (which I would imagine is the easy part, after you have already written the software that does what it does.) I'm just blown away by the potential this has for increasing access to those secret menus that restaurant owners don't translate because they think only natives want. And, of course, what a boon to travelers!
