I picked up a small bottle of Forage Blackcurrant and Apple Vinegar at Whole Foods. It's from New Zealand, and is a dark purple - it "has legs" - like a great port or something else with some significant specific gravity to it - it has very little sugar - naturally occuring - the ingredients are 90% apple and 10% blackcurrant - that's it.
I've just had it with a fresh baguette - soaking it up on chunks - eating some cheeses.
It's really quite delicious - lip-smacking, as it were. It is quite sweet and berry fruity, but the vinegar hits you and lingers as an aftertaste.
The bottle suggests that it would go good with a salad with duck or venison or smoked chicken - I am definitely smoking some duck breasts tomorrow.
But I'm trolling here to see if anybody has ideas on what else this night be good with. It's good by itself, but it's really begging for a combination that would knock your socks off.
