Welcome Inn/Melman?

Shasson | Sep 29, 200304:23 PM

Catching up on my back Chowhound reading, I saw Mike G.'s post 3 or 4 weeks ago about North Side thin crust to rival Vito & Nicks.

That reminded me that ReneG posted last year about how the late-great-Vito-&-Nick's-esque Welcome Inn on Western Avenue near Howard was supposedly the inspiration for a new pizza concept to be brought to life by Rich Melman in some incarnation.

Any updates? Welcome Inn was probably the North Side approximation of V & N.

BTW, MikeG, Gino's North, the sublime Art Deco bar and pizza joint under the Granville stop on the Red Line is a very good North Side thin crust (also discussed subsequent to ReneG's initial Welcome Inn post). Great fennel-y sausage and thin--albeit greasy--cracker crust.
