Ink! Wonderful, but I wish...

We had a wonderful dinner at Ink last evening. The food was great and the service excellent. We shared starters of peas with hummus, and the little gem salad...both were terrific. We then had two big plates...the halibut and the flat iron steak. Both were delicious, perfectly seasoned and cooked, with amazing flavors. We shared an apple dessert which was equally excellent. The food and service were both outstanding! So what's the problem?

I guess, I'm wanting everything in one place, and that seems to be very difficult to obtain in L.A. at this time. Yes, I'd really like a nicer ambiance than that at Ink. The room is pretty much monochromatic black...rather bleak looking, and somewhat depressing. It's just not at all warm or inviting. Second, the cocktails although very well prepared, are tiny...perhaps the smallest martini I've seen recently. This is clearly a trend in newer L.A. restaurants that claim to feature "artisanal" cocktails. Just give me a properly made non-artisanal traditional gin martini filling a traditional martini glass and I'm a happy camper! Lastly, we enjoy some bread with dinner...Ink does not even offer bread for a charge. It's surprising to me.

Sorry to complain when Ink offers so much...great food and terrific service. We'll certainly return. It's just that I want it all!!
