Help! Inexpensive whole grains in bins on the LES

Hi there,

My significant other is addicted to making his own granola, so he goes through whole grains like a madman. We would go quite broke if we had to buy them at places like Whole Foods. He used to go to this great little shop at the East end of Hester Street, which closed for "renovations" and then never opened back up. Very sad, as it had a wide variety of dried fruits and nuts and grains and was run by a really nice fellow. Also, they had the best halvah I've found in the city. It appears to be gone for good.

Anyway, the s.o. then started going to Healthy Pleasures on University, which was a reasonable alternative, although slightly pricier and sans the friendly and helpful owner. We just strolled by today, though, to see the place completely gutted, as was the s.o. upon seeing it. I started going to Economy Candy for my halvah fix, which thankfully seems like it will be there for at least several more decades. Not quite as good, in my opinion, but it does the trick.

Can anyone suggest another place for the grains vaguely nearby?

Thanks!
