Induction Vs. Budget

Hi CH! I've learned a lot on these forums over the past year or so but haven't posted before - but now I have a question that's been bugging me:

My wife and I will move soon to our first house together, leaving behind the apartment we currently share with a roommate. Unfortunately, that means leaving behind two things that have become important to me in the kitchen: our GE Profile gas stove, and two larger pieces of Sitram Catering cookware (or a predecessor - they're very old!). I couldn't bring them with me even if I owned them - the house we're moving to lacks a gas hookup in the kitchen, so I'm planning to switch to induction. The house currently has an old-ish GE Adora ceramic-radiant range in it.

I can only afford to spend about $1500 on a replacement stove, and I know that puts you right around the bottom of the barrel in terms of available induction ranges, so I was wondering: would it be better to just by 2x Vollrath Mirage Pro induction burners & use them for all the occasions I need fewer than three burners? That would cost $1000, get me lots of (supposed) control over the temperature of my food, and take care of about 80% of my cooking. On the downside, the VMPs have limited power (1800W) and would pretty much always be sitting out on the counter. Would an inexpensive induction range (say, the Frigidaire model) be better? Which option would you choose?
