Ok, so it isn't the greatest BBQ I've had, but I had a crew that really enjoyed Indigo Smoke in Montclair last night. It's advertised as Kansas City BBQ and soul food, but the soul food is much better than the BBQ. The good news: most of the people working there were black (a good sign for either cuisine. Bad news: few of the people eating there were black.
Very cute space. Great service. Great fried chicken, baby back ribs, sweet potato; BBQ baked beans; lamb sausage; corn bread; buttermilk biscuts. The BBQ chicken was only OK and BBQ sauce thin and unremarkable. Forget the cole slaw.
The dish my arteries wouldn't let me try: Bacon hash browns. What I'll order next time: wood grilled catfish. Tab for 4: $64 not including tip. (It's BYO).
