Before we move out to the burbs, we wanted to try some places we still hadn't made it to. Tonight we went to Punjab Cafe in Quincy. Outstanding from soup to nuts. We began with an appetizer that consisted of light balls of lentil-flour based yumminess in a bowl of tangy yogurt sauce with fresh mint and toasted cumin seed, swirled with tamarind. The balls were reminiscnet of hushpuppies though much lighter and tastier, and the sauce was lovely. For entrees we had chana masala which was the best I've had in Boston, and a fabulous lamb dish (called lamb do-something - I can't remember the rest of the name). Chunks of tandoori lamb cooked with fresh tomatoes, peppers, onions, ginger, garlic, in a smoky, delicious sauce. My husband declared it the best lamb dish he's ever eaten (I'm trying not to take offense, as I just cooked a lovely leg of lamb for passover) and I'm not too far behind his sentiment. We ordered an assorted basket of breads which were the perfect way to sop up the extra sauces.
For dessert we ordered ras mali which was just okay, and I had a cup of masala chai which was very good. The wait staff was attentive, friendly, and very knowledgeable and the place seemed to be hopping. Has anyone been to this gem? Other experiences?
