India4U takeout (pdx)

whippy | Dec 7, 200506:42 PM

India 4U on Hawthorne has started serving simple and tasty homestyle food to go. It's only a week old, so shelves from the grocery store are still being shifted about and the kitchen/service is still getting organized.

But it's a decent option for pickup. The food is straightforward Northern, nothing earth shattering but well made and piping hot. I just brought back the day's offerings: a light dal, some simple chickpeas and a mutter paneer with welcome crusty brown bits, all without cream. I guess the choices will change daily, with other veggies and perhaps koftas showing up. I gobbled a samosa in my car with a very good zingy tamarind chutney.

There isn’t much like this in east Portland now, cheap takeout Indian. Hopefully it will blossom.
