I've enjoyed DiPala in the 100 Block of Market St for years. The Chef does wonderful things and the room is classy with nice italian music. (Not South Philly loudness).
Well I'm on their email list and received note that Monday and Tuesday is a Fixed Price dinner at $25.00 per person. But to make it better, Mondays are BYOB! So we went last night. WHAT a bargain! First you need to know that it's the Chef's Choice so if any of what I will descibe is not what you eat, then pass on it. You can certainly order off the regular menu but at about 2 1/2 times the price.
Here's the deal: On M&T's you get a FOUR course meal for $25.00! (But it's even better than it sounds!). The main course is really TWO courses.
Here's what we had last night (no choice and served family style).
1. Frito Mixto - HUGE plate of fried calamari and fried red bell peppers and fried lemon slices plus two jumbo shrimp.
2. Next was two HUGE portions of Pasta- Gnocchi with a pesto sauce and spinach ravioli with a light tomato basil sauce. (as I said you got BOTH. The Ravoili were super night. I found the gnocci a bit dense.
3. The Entree. For the TWO of us we got TWo Huge filets of Salmon and two Chicken Breasts both done with Artichokes, small onions, brocolli rabe, and olives and potatoes. So big we took half home.
4. For Dessert we each had a HUGE (Believe me HUGE) dense Titamisu.
We had no coffee.
Here's the kicker. On Mondays it's BYOB! So the Bill was just under $59. before tip for the TWO of us!
You need to ask for the Chef's Fixed Price Special. It is NOT mentioned on the menu or by the server.
Chef Sal DiPalma usually comes out to great folks. He's doing fantastic things in the kitchen. (and a bonus is that parking is easier to find on Mondays)
The place only had two other tables of two (and one was my next door neighbor who I didn't even know knew the place was there!).
The entrees alone are mid $20's. Frito Mixto is $10.00 Pasta's are about $15.00. So it's a steal.
They are closed closed in month of July.
We'll definitely be back this month!
