I just want to tell the avid readers of this site to check out the restaurant Yono's in Albany, NY, should they ever find themselves up there. Having grown up in Albany, there was always a spartan number of "fine" restaurants, and the ones to which I refer have often since closed down! But on a recent visit (I now live in Manhattan), I decided to check out the new Yono's (probably not so new anymore, though) in the Armory Garage Center.
The food was excellent, though the portions weren't that generous. The fare has a very large Indonesian influence, but there are some French and Asian accents on the menu for those less daring. There are some exotic choices, as well, including an appetizer of alligator (which I tried and enjoyed), and ostrich. The desserts were also quite satisfying, though not to die-for.
The ambiance of the actual restaurant is also quite lovely. It is conducive for a large group OR a small intimate party - they can accommodate either. I'd say the biggest gripe is that you have to endure going through an incredibly self-gratuitious and tacky theme mall centered on a car dealership. Who the hell wants to get all dressed up and enjoy fine dining......but first walk through a car dealership???? Totally tacky. Yono, move back downtown!!
But do dine there.....quite a nice experience once inside!
