I've lived in NYC since 1990 and know my way around Italian...or so I thought till a super-special women asked, where's a great place for Italian? She arrives from far far out of state this Thursday and I want to make a great impression. (A really special impression.) But frankly, I'm a bit stumped. For me, great Italian comes from lots of places. It could be the Two Toms, or Da Silvano or Quartino or Dekk since on any given night one's mood changes. But what to do for someone from out of town who wants great New York Italian? Like the last-Italian-meal-ever-type Italian. Any thoughts welcome-- including traveling off Manhattan. BTW, I can afford or have the juice to get into Rao's.
