Il Cono, Nic's -- Beverly Hills

Chowpatty | Nov 3, 200403:32 PM

Spent the evening in BH the other night at a party at Nic's. Hors d'oeuvres were wonderful - steak kabobs, stuffed mushrooms, quesadillas, etc. I've been there for happy hour too and always been very happy with the appetizers at the bar. What's it like for a whole dinner? Worth the trip? Seems like it would be a great place for a company party, too.

Stopped at Il Cono afterwards to try the gelato - eh. The apricot was quite good, although it seemed to hint more of canned apricot than fresh apricots. But the caramel wasn't made properly -- it didn't have that distinctive European caramel bitterness at all. And I've had scores of caramel ice creams in Britain, France and Italy, where it always has that taste. Prices are ridiculous -- $4.00 for a small cup. Some of the flavors looked interesting, but the colors seem oddly bright, like they have coloring in them. I think Al Gelato is better than this place.
