May I get some ideas of portion sizes at Range, Frances, maybe Beretta?

It's hard to tell from pictures (could just be a small plate!)

My brother in law will be in town for a few days in mid March and while he's been to the city often, he's generally stuck to the Union Square / Nob Hill / Fisherman's Wharf part of town. His first day he's planning on Scoma and Buena Vista which he does every time he's in the city!

Now that I live here, I'd like to take him to dinner further into the city and am thinking Mission or Castro (so I can then get ice cream after!)

He's open to most types of cuisine and I'm cool with the price points of say, Range, but I know that he gets cranky about portion size. He's a big dude and loves food! I know that if he gets an entree consisting of two scallops, he will eat it in two minutes. Hell, so would I!

So. What are the best higher end places for portion size? I haven't gotten around to trying a lot of them myself (so many places to try all the time!) so would appreciate some guidance.

Thank you!
